THE MOST RECENT HORROR AND ENSUING TRAGEDY THAT TOOK PLACE AT VIRGINIA TECH TOUCHED EVERY HEART HERE IN THE U.S AS WELL AS MANY OTHER COUNTRIES.
When we think of the pain the 33 families are enduring, grieving for their loved children, brothers, sisters, relatives- we cannot help but share their pain.
It also tells us something we did, or did not do, clearly shows the difference from this generation to previous ones. How did it happen? When did life become so cheap, so unimportant? Experts will tell us video games, T.V, Rap music and similar factors contribute to the deterioration of our values. Certainly mental health is at fault but we have had mentally ill people since time immemorial and they did not go around shooting others. Is it the "monkey see, monkey do" mentality. Do people really believe having their names go into the record book for causing so much anguish to others is an accomplishment?
As my administration perceives it, we must start with the basics. Education is where it has to start. Part of education is teaching right from wrong, respect instead of hate, Censorship of some of the aforementioned possible causes must also be a priority. Turning on the radio and listening to a Rap "singer" (?) talk of violence, games that depict lack of respect for human life, controls must be exerted and while we all agree that too much government can seem like a police state and that it violates our rights, we must also agree wanton killings, senseless annihilation, cannot be tolerated. Arms control is a must in a society where sick people can easily obtain weapons. Talk of Weapons of mass destruction, we just witnessed it.
The Deficit Reduction Party, in addition to obliterating the Deficit has the responsibility of educating and teaching right from wrong, giving care to those who require it, rekindling respect for others.
Won't you join us in our March to accomplish all these goals?
